Botox® in Staten Island, NY
Dr. Decorato offers Botox® treatments to patients throughout New York and New Jersey, including Staten Island, Manhattan, Brooklyn, Elizabeth, Newark, Jersey City, and Perth Amboy.
Botox® is an injectable treatment formulated to reduce the appearance of certain facial wrinkles by relaxing the muscles causing them. By causing controlled weakening in these muscles, the skin over the muscles is smoothed out, and the appearance of wrinkles and lines is diminished. Many patients find that Botox® can have dramatic results on frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and other deep facial creases.
Is Botox® Right for Me?
Many patients choose Botox® treatments when they are trying to reduce the signs of aging, especially facial wrinkles. This procedure is often recommended as an alternative to more invasive procedures such as facelifts and brow lifts.
Botox® can be used to smooth many lines and wrinkles, including the following:
- Horizontal forehead creases
- Crow’s feet (around the eyes)
- Laugh lines from the nose to the corners of the mouth
Botox® injections work well on wrinkles caused by movement of facial muscles but will not affect those caused by gravity or exposure to the sun. In addition to cosmetic uses, Botox® can also treat uncontrolled blinking, lazy eye, and several other health conditions. The Costs of Botox®in New York or New Jersey
Botox® costs depend on the amount of Botox® solution needed to treat the targeted area, among other considerations. According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, these costs average about $325.00 per visit. We actively participate in Allergan’s Brilliant Distinctions program, which offers financial incentives to program members.
Procedure Details
Botox® can be injected in the doctor’s office and does not require any kind of anesthesia. You will simply relax in the chair as the doctor injects your skin with a specially formulated Botox® solution in a process that takes just minutes. A very fine needle is used to inject a dilute solution of Botox® into targeted facial muscles. After this injection, the Botox® toxin causes these muscles to relax by blocking signals sent from nerves to these muscles, which would ordinarily cause them to contract, forcing the skin covering them to fold into those familiar lines and creases. After Botox®, the muscles can no longer contract, relaxing these wrinkles.
Recovery After Botox®
After Botox®, patients can return to their daily activities immediately, which has earned this treatment the reputation of being a “lunchtime procedure.” No incisions, sutures, or bandages are involved with Botox® injections. Most patients don’t take more than an hour or two away from work or school. Side effects, which patients may experience for one to two days after the injection, include minor bruising and headaches. It is important to avoid rubbing the treated area for twelve hours or lying down for four hours, as these activities can cause the Botox® solution to migrate to other areas of the body, causing slight numbness.
Botox® patients find that the results of the procedure usually remain visible for between four and six months. Gradually the treated muscles regain their ability to contract, and the wrinkles will begin to reappear. At this time, you may wish to return for a follow-up injection of Botox®.
